how to lose weight quickly and safely

Foods That Promote Weight Loss

Every so often, we find an article or a report somewhere discussing a food to help you lose weight. Can this possibly be true? Are there indeed foods that you can eat which will cause you to lose weight instead of pack on the pounds? Or is it simply yet another weight loss myth?

There are such foods, but they may not be the panacea we dreamed of. Unfortunately, chocolate, cheese, pasta and ice cream are not on the list.

Water

In the interests of accuracy, water is not considered a food. However, it is a necessary component of our daily diet and food intake, and it is critical to a healthy weight loss.

As you undoubtedly know, you cannot live for long without water. Your body, especially your digestive system, requires water regularly. If you become dehydrated, you will note a weight loss on the scales, but that loss is likely to be fluid, not fat.

The good news is that water has absolutely no calories. Unless you add something to it, you can drink as much water as you like without increasing your calorie count. Interestingly, drinking cold water has an impact on our weight. The cold water absorbs body heat, causing your body to burn extra calories to regain that lost heat. Your body also burns calories in the process of moving the water through your system and eliminating it through perspiration and urine.

Not only that, drinking water can help us eat less because the stomach feels full and we have less hunger. Drinking water may help eliminate the urgings and the cravings to eat more than you wanted to.

Negative Calorie Food

Negative calorie foods are foods that supposedly require more calories to digest than the food contains. This is somewhat controversial, and not all weight management experts support this theory. It may be that if we eat a large number of negative calorie foods, we are simply using them in place of the foods with a higher calorie count.

For example, if you ate a large amount of celery, you might be less likely to eat a peanut butter cookie.

Foods generally considered to be negative calorie foods include celery, cress, zucchini, garlic, chicory, lemons, limes, greens and similar others. Fruits other than lemons and limes are relatively low in calories, but whether to count them as negative calorie foods is a difficult decision. Watermelon, for instance, is almost 99% water but is fairly high in fructose (natural fruit sugar).

Thermogenic Foods

Again, thermogenic foods are a controversial issue when it comes to losing weight quickly. Some experts believe that certain foods may actually promote weight loss by causing your metabolism to become faster. With a faster metabolism, you will burn more calories.

One supposedly thermogenic food is salsa, which is believed to increase a body's metabolism by as much as twenty per cent. Mustard and hot chilli sauce are thought to have a similar effect. Possibly other hot foods are thermogenic as well.

Foods High in Protein

Meals that are rich in protein and low in carbohydrates can promote weight loss in that they can increase your metabolism by as much as thirty per cent.

Fish protein - especially fish high in omega essential fatty acids can lead to even greater weight loss. Salmon, herring and sardines are particularly high in omega acids.

Turkey is also an excellent source of protein for anyone wanting to lose weight. Turkey meat is 94% protein. The fat content is low, especially if you remove the skin and all visible fat.

To sum up, if you drink a lot of water, eat large serving of greens and consume protein like fish or turkey, you are eating foods that may help you lose weight.
